Geoagiu is situated at the confluence of the inferior stream of the river Geoagiu with Mures River, in a depression formed from the last ramification of Metaliferi Mountains. Archeologically speaking, Geoagiu commune is known by means of the ancient Dacian settlement of Germisara (Germi - meaning hot and sara-source) which was once on this territory and which became under the Romans Thermae Germisara or Germisara Cum Thermis.

In the year 1506 Geoagiu was the residence of the feudal domain also under the ruling of the Wallachian sovereigns/rulers - Radu cel Mare and Neagoe Basarab. At this moment in the area of these thermae it is located the watering climatic resort Geoagiu-Bai, situated at an altitude of 350 meters, in an area with an impressive geological activity which explains the forming of the mezothermal sources (approximately 30°C).

After the First World War between 1914 and 1918, Geoagiu became the main residence, having under its rule 31 villages. Each one of these villages keeps memories of the more or less further past.

Through its location Geoagiu is characterized by a temperate climate softened due to the arrangement of the water net, thus creating a microclimate favorable to the cultivation of trees and more so of some very demanding ones - the almond tree, the edible chestnut tree and so on.
The annual medium temperature gets to 9.8 Celsius degrees.

Natural Treatment Factors: mineral alkaline waters, containing a slight concentration of sulphur, bicarbonate, magnesium, mezothermal and thermal waters (29 - 32 Celsius degrees); peat medicinal mud, ferruginous, sedative climate.

Therapeutical indications: locomotory diseases, gynecological diseases, nutrition and metabolic diseases; dermatological diseases.

Roman Period Vestiges

The place known as The Romans' Hillock and The Thermal Water Cave Geoagiu Bai - Germisara.

The disinteration of the statues representing Esculap and Egeea testifies for the intense life of those times.
There were also found here a temple dedicated to the Nymphs, but also vestiges of sanctuaries, statues, coins and objects made of precious metal, such as seven gold small votive plates.
